We’re in the press!
Well, this is a proud moment! Today, to tie in with the final day of Dementia Action Week, The Metro have done a feature on my book for people with advanced dementia.
It’s always quite daunting speaking to reporters - you really want to say the right thing. Let me assure that ‘the right thing’, when a journalist asks you “what kind of books did your mum enjoy reading” is not “those 80s bonkbusters”. They’re not going to print that! Anyway, we got there in the end, and the article is fab. You can read it online here.
As a brand new business, it’s exciting to get featured anywhere at all. I sometimes feel like people with dementia aren’t meant to be seen. But, they need and deserve to be visible. As a society, we need much more understanding around dementia, and it starts with ‘meeting’ the people who have it.
Throughout May 2023, £1 from every book sold on Amazon, and from every item sold via this website, will be donated directly to Alzheimer’s Society, to help them with their vital work. If you buy the book, I hope it’s helpful - not just for your loved one with dementia, but for you, if you’re reading it with them.
The idea is to use the images and captions as prompts to start a conversation, rather than reading through, like a traditional book. It’s also a slim volume - my mum holds onto greetings cards happily enough, but the previous book we got her was a landscape hardback, and it was just too big for her. Book lovers look away now - my mum also has a habit of only looking at the right hand page of a book. Because Words Without Stories is slim, I can bend it back on itself, to only show one page at a time (I know, I know, but needs must!).
Words Without Stories is avaiable on Amazon here.
