7 Moments of Joy With My Mum

When I talk about my mum’s dementia with people, I will often talk about how lucky we are.
I realise that sounds odd, but, you have to judge a situation on its own merits, right? Are we lucky that my mum has dementia? No, of course not.
But, she could be anxious, weepy, agressive, shouting. Instead, she always seems calm and content.

And, let me tell you, the focus you give to someone who can’t communicate directly with you…I have never given anyone else that much attention in my life. Sometimes, my mum will say short sentences that make sense. Any visit is taken up waiting for one. Think ‘driving down the motorway in heavy snow’ focus, so concentrated is my mind on what my mum is doing when I’m with her.

Here are 7 moments of joy, from recent visits.
